Bhakoot Dosha

Bhakoot dosha occurs when the two partners' Moon signs fall in a 6–8, 5–9 or 2–12 relationship to one another. Bhakoot carries 7 of the 36 ashtakoot points, and these three configurations score zero. It is the second heaviest koota after nadi.

The rule
Moon signs separated by 6/8 (shadashtaka), 5/9 (navam-pancham) or 2/12 (dwirdwadash) positions.
Assessed from
- Both partners' Moon signs, counted in both directions
Cancellations and disputes
- The lords of both Moon signs are the same graha
- The lords of the two Moon signs are natural friends
- A 5–9 relationship is treated leniently by many practitioners as it is otherwise auspicious
The 5–9 (navam-pancham) case is inconsistently treated. Because trine relationships are considered favourable elsewhere in Jyotish, many astrologers do not treat it as a genuine dosha at all.
