Moon sign
Moon sign (chandra rashi)
Your moon sign, or chandra rashi, is the sidereal zodiac sign the Moon occupied at your birth. In Vedic astrology it matters more than the sun sign: daily predictions, dasha periods and gun milan all key off it. This calculator returns your rashi, the Moon's exact degree, and its nakshatra with pada.
Questions
- Why is my Vedic moon sign different from what other sites show?
- Most Western sites use the tropical zodiac. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which currently differs by roughly 24 degrees. That gap is enough to move the Moon into the previous sign for a large share of birth times.
- Why does the Moon need an accurate birth time?
- The Moon moves about 13 degrees a day, roughly one sign every two and a quarter days. An error of a few hours rarely changes the sign but can easily change the nakshatra or pada.
