Does Vedic astrology work? A method-first answer, not a verdict
What can honestly be claimed for Jyotish: computed placements are reproducible; interpretations are a tradition, not a proof. Where health, money, and marriage claims go too far.

"Does Vedic astrology work?" is the question Reddit and Quora already own, and most answers collapse three layers into one slogan. A method-first site has to keep them apart: astronomy, tradition, and outcome claims.
What is reproducible
The sky part is not mystical. Given a birth date, time, and place, Swiss Ephemeris plus the Lahiri ayanamsa yields planetary longitudes you can check on DrikPanchang or Astro.com. Nakshatra, pada, whole-sign house, and Vimshottari balance follow from those longitudes by published rules. If two competent programs disagree here, one of them is misconfigured. That layer "works" in the same sense a calendar works.
What is a language, not a proof
Significations — Moon as mind, 7th as partnership, mangal dosha as a matching screen — are a inherited vocabulary. They can be useful for self-description the way Enneagram or attachment styles can be useful, and they can be abused the way those can be abused. Usefulness in a conversation is not the same as a causal mechanism from gravity or starlight to personality. Astrologic does not claim the latter.
Where the tradition walks into harm
Three claim-types have real consequences and are the ones we refuse:
- Health. No medical astrology, no gemstones as treatment.
- Money. No stock timing, no investment muhurat sold as finance advice.
- Marriage as verdict. A gun milan score is a traditional screen from two Moon positions. It is not a prediction that a relationship will fail. The kundli matching tool shows the eight kootas and says so.

A fair test for a chart product
- Can you see the method — ayanamsa, houses, ephemeris? (Methodology.)
- Can you reproduce the numbers without the vendor?
- Does the copy stay inside temperament and timing language, or does it sell certainty?
